Premier League Gameweek 5 Previews and Predictions

Hey everyone, the next 2 editions of Premier League and football league predictions will unfortunately have to be abridged versions. I’m on holiday the next week so won’t have much time to write but I’ll be back to full previews after next weekend. Without further ado, here are my predictions for this week.

Newcastle United vs Leeds United

What I think will happen:

Away sides tend to struggle on Friday night games. Leeds aren’t great and Newcastle are pretty bad but can at least score. I can see it being 2-1 Newcastle or 1-1. I’ll take the Newcastle win here.

Newcastle 2-1 Leeds

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

What I think will happen:

I doubt this one will be a thriller since both sides play a similar style of football but I’m taking Wolves here. They got a really solid win last week and are a better team than Brentford. They’ll win a tight game 1-0

Wolves 1-0 Brentford

Burnley vs Arsenal

What I think will happen:

Arsenal finally got their season going last week and are getting more players back each week. They’re playing Burnley at a good time given their abject capitulation after taking the lead against Everton and they can win this game 2-1.

Burnley 1-2 Arsenal

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

What I think will happen:

Palace have been excellent in their last couple of games and have a good chance to get a run of results over this period. Unfortunately for them I can’t see it happening here, Liverpool have too much talent and solidity when fully fit and I can see them winning 2-0 here.

Liverpool 2-0 Crystal Palace

Manchester City vs Southampton

What I think will happen:

This should be straightforward for Man City. They’re solid at home and Southampton are much poorer away than they are at home. Look for this to be a 3-0 win for City.

Man City 3-0 Southampton

Norwich City vs Watford

What I think will happen:

This is already a relegation 6 pointer. Watford managed to do the double over Norwich last season and that might be the best pointer I can find given the current lack of form of both teams. That being said, Watford haven’t been great in either away game so I’m not comfortable tipping them up to win. I’m going to sit on the fence and say this is 1-1.

Norwich 1-1 Watford

Aston Villa vs Everton

What I think will happen:

Everton got a good win on Monday but will be set for a period where goals may be harder to find with no Calvert Lewin in the team. But I can see them getting a draw here since Villa haven’t been brilliant at finishing this season and Benitez can play on the counter.

Aston Villa 1-1 Everton

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Leicester City

What I think will happen:

Both teams are playing at a similar level right now and I’m liking Brighton here. They’ve built a tenacity to their game where they’re winning games that have been even and they can win 2-1 here since they’re a more reliable defensive team than Leicester right now.

Brighton 2-1 Leicester

West Ham United vs Manchester United

What I think will happen:

I’d have called this a major trap game for Manchester United but they may get away with it here because West Ham have to travel to Zagreb on Thursday night and may be not fully at the races for this one. I expect this to be a pretty poor game and for Man United to win 2-0.

West Ham 0-2 Manchester United

Tottenham vs Chelsea

What I think will happen:

This is the biggest game of the week and I can see the Spurs upset here. This fully depends on Son playing though, if he doesn’t play then Spurs will offer nothing going forward and lose 1 or 2-0 but if he does play I quite like them to do well. Chelsea have looked vulnerable the last couple of games but have been bailed out by opponents having poor finishing. This run may end here in a derby.

Tottenham 2-1 Chelsea
