Hey everyone. Sorry about the late post on this one, just got back from a holiday and I was busy yesterday morning. Without further ado, here are my picks for the Premier League this weekend.
Chelsea vs Manchester City
Odds: Chelsea – 13/8 Draw – 11/5 Man City – 7/4
What I think will happen:
I’m still not sold that either side is playing their best football, especially defensively. I can see City taking the lead but I can’t trust them to be able to defend it and I wouldn’t be surprised if this game ended up being 2-2. Both sides have more than enough weapons going forward to take advantage of any defensive lapses and I doubt either side will be coming for a draw here. Torres looks a good scorer shout for City if he starts and Havertz tends to be the go to guy for a goal in big games for Chelsea.
Chelsea 2-2 Man City
Manchester United vs Aston Villa
Odds: Man U – 4/11 Draw – 17/4 Villa – 7/1
What I think will happen:
I think United will slip up in the league soon and they majorly got away with it last week against West Ham. I’m just not sure Villa are the team to stop them. They’ve been awful defensively away from home and though I like them to score, I can see them losing 3-1 here. Ronaldo looks nailed on to score here with Villa struggling against strikers lately and Greenwood also could be a scorer in this one.
Man United 3-1 Aston Villa
Everton vs Norwich
Odds: Everton – 3/5 Draw – 14/5 Norwich – 19/4
What I think will happen:
Everton have the worst injury situation in the league at the moment and would’ve been a great team to take on this week. Unfortunately, I’m not sure Norwich can be that team. They’re poor at the back and poor going forward. I like Everton to have a similar performance to the one they had against Burnley not long ago and they can win this one 2-1.
Everton 2-1 Norwich
Leeds United vs West Ham United
Odds: Leeds – 2/1 Draw – 13/5 West Ham – 5/4
What I think will happen:
I like West Ham a lot here. They did the double over Leeds last season and Leeds are the same team here. They’re also in much better form and would likely be odds on if they didn’t miss a penalty last week. Leeds also have a massive injury list, Bamford won’t play, Raphinia and Harrison are questionable and they have a couple of defensive injuries and suspensions. This could be a near seconf string Leeds side and I struggle to see how West Ham are this price.
Leeds 0-3 West Ham
Leicester City vs Burnley
Odds: Leicester – 4/7 Draw – 3/1 Burnley – 5/1
What I think will happen:
The results for Leicester haven’t been great lately, but they’re not playing badly and were extremely unlucky not to get a draw last week. Burnley meanwhile are starting to look in real trouble, they haven’t improved their squad in a while and it’s really starting to show. But they also are playing a little better than the form indicates and this could be a tight game. I’m going to say Burnley get a draw here, the Leicester defence isn’t great and with goals being a bit hard to come by, they can be held here.
Leicester 1-1 Burnley
Watford vs Newcastle United
Odds: Watford – 6/5 Draw – 12/5 Newcastle – 23/10
What I think will happen:
Watford have been winning the games they’ve scored first in this season and I like them to take the lead again here and go on to win. I don’t see them keeping a clean sheet since Newcastle have some nice attacking players but they can get a 2-1 win here. Sarr will be a man to watch as will Saint-Maximan for Newcastle.
Watford 2-1 Newcastle
Brentford vs Liverpool
Odds: Brentford – 6/1 Draw – 7/2 Liverpool – 4/9
What I think will happen:
This market is completely wrong for me. I’d give Brentford a solid chance to get a result in the game given their defensive solidity and a lot of their players being in good form. A home atmosphere in a televised game is a boost as well. The issue will be if they can score against this Liverpool defence. I think they can with Liverpool possibly looking ahead to a Champions League game in midweek. This will either be 1-1 or 2-1 to Liverpool for me and I’m going to say Brentford can get a point here.
Brentford 1-1 Liverpool
Southampton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Odds: Southampton – 13/8 Draw – 11/5 Wolves – 9/5
What I think will happen:
I like Southampton here. Wolves were dreadful at the back last week and Southampton are showing signs of improvement in that regard. They’ve kept recent clean sheets against Man City and West Ham who are far better going forward than Wolves. I can see Southampton getting a 2-0 win here and getting their season started.
Southampton 2-0 Wolves
Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur
Odds: Arsenal – 11/10 Draw – 23/10 Spurs – 5/2
What I think will happen:
Both teams have had reversals of form in the last couple of weeks in opposite directions and I like that to continue here. Arsenal have become a lot more dogged at the back and with Spurs looking inept going forward and the system not working for Kane, it’s tough to see them scoring here. Look for Arsenal to get another 1-0 win here.
Arsenal 1-0 Spurs
Crystal Palace vs Brighton and Hove Albion
Odds: Palace – 21/10 Draw – 11/5 Brighton – 8/5
What I think will happen:
I like Palace to win this one. Last week was a game they were always going to struggle in and they had chances when the game was still close. This should be a better matchup for them and it’s at home. Brighton are getting scrappy wins at the moment but the performances aren’t great and this may be the sort of situation that they come unstuck in. I doubt this game will be a classic but Palace can get a 2-0 win here.
Crystal Palace 2-0 Brighton
